Yerington, NV;
The Incline High varsity volleyball team once again showed they are one of the best AA teams in the state of Nevada but they have to finish to be the best as the #1 Yerington Lions defeated the #2 Highlanders 3 sets to 1 on Saturday afternoon in Yerington.
In almost a replica of their first match at Incline a couple of weeks ago, Incline came out hot and defeated the host Lions 25 – 23 in game one behind phenomenal passing and quick aggressive attacks.
“We played like ourselves in game one and it was beautiful to watch,” Incline coach Tim Kelly said. “When we pass the ball with confidence and fly around for each other then we are extremely tough to beat. That first game is how we play, it was like the court dissapeared for Yerington, nothing was hitting the floor and the ball was being put where our setter can run our offense aggressively.”
Unfortunately for all the Inlcline faithful that made the 2 hour drive on Saturday morning, the Highlanders could not hold that momentum or precise passing ability and the Lions won the next three to take the AA Northern league title again and maintain the #1 seed.
The loss drops the Highlanders into the 3rd seed for Northern Nevada regional tournament that will be at Fernley High School on Friday Nov. 3 and Saturday Nov. 4. With two league games to play this weekend anything can happen but if all stays true to form with the favorites winning their matches, then Incline will face the #6 seed on Friday night and then get a rematch with #2 White Pine on Saturday afternoon. The winner of that match will get the winner of the #1 Yerington vs. the #4 or #5 seed in the regional championship match.
“We know we can beat everyone in this league, we know we are capable of being the champions,” Kelly said. “We will prepare for the next two weeks with that goal in our mind and I know our Seniors will lead the charge. It’s going to be a great ending.”
