West Wendover, NV;
Driving all the way to the border of Utah and Nevada, the Incline High varsity volleyball team didn’t slow down it’s pursuit for a AA Northern NV league title on Friday night as they destroyed the West Wendover Wolverines in 3 straight sets.
Taking off at 5am from Incline High Friday morning, the 8 – 1 Highlanders started fast and finished strong against the 1 – 8 Wolverines.
“That ride is long and 5am was early,” Incline coach Tim Kelly said. “I’m very happy we got off that bus and played the way we can play. We played very well, I’m very proud of these young ladies.”
It was easy for Kelly to be proud on Friday night as all 7 of the available Highlanders contributed. Incline is without starting outside hitter Chandler Cohn and starting libero and back up outside hitter Olivia Schneider for the trip. Cohn had a family trip and Schneider injured her thumb at the end of the North Tahoe game on Tuesday.
It didn’t matter Friday though as Senior libero, Leslie Medina, started outside for Incline and played beautifully. Senior hitters; Ellyse Kirkland and Madison Cronk continued thier stellar play as they were unblockable. Senior setter Madeleine Saxe was once again phenomenal runnning the Highlander attack as she fed everyone great sets. For Kelly though the best part of the night was the middle attack of Senior Alexis Krolick and Sophomore Michaela Racich.
“We know that tomorrow, against White Pine, our middles are huge for us and tonight was a great game by both of them. We attacked well inside and we need that to beat White Pine and Yerington. They worked hard this week to be ready for this weekend. They should be very happy with their effort tonight, I know I am.”
Finally, Junior libero Alyssa Fellows had her most consistent game of the year on Friday. Playing libero and DS this season, Fellows will be the libero for the weekend and she passed the ball beauftifully all night.
The win sets up a big game in Ely Nevada tomorrow against the White Pine Wildcats. White Pine is two games behind the Highlanders in 3rd place. Game time is noon at White Pine High.
