Highlanders freshman Niklas Pietzke on the start found himself 20 seconds back fighting for eighth place. The first mile split was 5:27, Pietzke held back as the plan was to push it after two miles. Teammates Homola, Jenkins, and Wolf continued to assist fighting for positions among the larger squads.

Final lap Pietzke moved back into the lead group, finishing first for freshman and 5th overall at 18:10. Niklas was the second individual qualifier behind Yerington who took 4th. Coach Tom Reymer “Proud of how these guys trained in foul weather from rain, wind amd snow only to compete in sunshine and clear skies.” “We set a plan a week ago for this race and they came out amd left their best on the course! Begining of the season we wanted to improve and give our best to reach state. Nick made it and will look to improve next year for a team qualification.”

Homola staged a sprint at the finish to oick up 22nd at 22:10. Zach also an Incline freshman will compete in track this spring. Juniors Dillon Jenkins and Brent Wolfe finished close together at 23:05 amd 23:11.
