Lady Highlanders finished ahead of rival North Tahoe in 400 relay as the fine tune their handoffs in push for Regional tournament competition next week.
The team lead by Junior Belle Johnson continue their pace to remain one of the top relay teams in AA league state competition. Sophomore Racquel Oliver had to scratch the hurdles this weekend from a fall at Truckee on Tuesday. The time off should allow her to be ready next week for the trials in Fallon, NV.
Alyssa Fellows had a personal best in the discus this past weekend along with Belle Johnson in the 400m.
The high jump and disc competition were the same time this weekend making warm ups a a challenge for freshman Samantha Giangreco. This is how regional will run for one of the top AA female track athletes. Giangreco came close to reaching new heights in the high jump and will polish up before the trials. She is also the anchor to the team 400 relay which should be favored to contend for a state title in Las Vegas in 3 weeks.
Belle Johnson in her second meet vaulting has now cleared 6’6″ and is improving each day in practice. Johnson took time from the pole vault to contest the 400m along with the lead off in the 400 relay. Johnson can be heard on the track cheering her own teammates and that of other competitors a true showing of sportsmanship.
The Highlanders will travel to Fallon, NV May 6th for Regional Trials. Advancing athletes will compete the following week at Carson City for a place to compete at the NIAA State Track Meet at Foothill High School, Henderson NV, May 19-20th.
